In the first episode of Casting it Out, hosts Josie D-G and Kayla P share their personal stories of leaving rural Massachusetts behind and starting over in Nashville. With honesty and humor, they talk about friendship, heartbreak, and the leap it takes to build a new life in an unfamiliar city.

How Josie Decided to Move to Nashville

For Josie, the decision to move came after a broken engagement and the collapse of a romantic connection that had left her questioning her future. At first, she considered moving somewhere safe, like Ohio, where a friend lived. But after a brutally honest conversation with her best friend, she realized she didn’t want to settle for a city just because she knew someone there.

Instead, she chose Nashville. It felt exciting, affordable, and like a place she could actually see herself thriving. Once she said it out loud, she committed to it and was determined not to back out, no matter what anyone thought.

Why Kayla Chose Nashville Too

Kayla’s journey looked very different. She had lived in the same home for nine years, just one town over from where she grew up. Life there was comfortable, but she wanted something new and a fresh start. Unlike Josie, her decision wasn’t sparked by heartbreak. It was fueled by curiosity and the desire for change.

Telling her close friends was hard, especially since it happened spontaneously one night over drinks. She knew they were devastated, but she also knew she had to follow through. With some help, she found an apartment in Nashville, sold her house, and moved at the start of the new year.

Choosing Yourself

Even though Josie and Kayla made their decisions separately, their stories share a common thread: choosing themselves and embracing the unknown. Neither move was easy. Leaving behind comfort, friendships, and stability never is. But both women knew Nashville was the right choice.

In this episode, they open up about:

  • What it’s really like to move away from a small town

  • How it feels to start over in a city where you don’t know anyone

  • The fears and excitement that come with big life changes

  • Why choosing yourself is sometimes the bravest thing you can do
