This week, Josie D-G and Kayla P talk about the good, the bad, and everything in between when it comes to unemployed life as a woman.
There’s no limit to how stressful losing your job can be. It can shake your stability and make you question your worth. But sometimes, there’s a silver lining; it can be the push you need to figure out what you really want for yourself.

Casting it Out actually came to life during a period of unemployment. Josie was searching for her next move. There had been talk for years about her and her boyfriend starting a podcast, an idea that had zero execution. There were other concepts too, but they all circled back to one thing: Josie had stories to share, and she knew those stories could help other women feel seen and heard.
By early 2024, Casting it Out finally took shape, and it wouldn’t have existed if Josie hadn’t been laid off (more than once). After her second layoff, she realized it was time to make it happen. She started recording solo episodes and quickly realized the podcast would be even better with another voice. Enter Kayla, who also had some time on her hands from being unemployed, and the rest is history.
So, what about the bad?
This week, Josie and Kayla open up about how losing jobs has impacted them, the best and worst jobs they’ve had, the relief of walking away from toxic ones, and the anxiety that comes with not knowing what’s next. They talk about applying to (no exaggeration) thousands of jobs, the mistakes they’ve made, the lessons they’ve learned, and the moments where they did everything right but still didn’t get the outcome they wanted.
If you’ve ever feared losing your job, been through it yourself, or just want to hear two friends talk candidly about their experiences, this episode is for you.
